Kuka'ilimoku at the Peabody Essex Museum

Kuka'ilimoku, one of the four main deities of Native Hawaiian culture, is shown here immediately after a protocol performed by Marques Marzan of the Bishop Museum.  During the protocol, Marques approached Ku respectfully, while chanting greetings from his homeland, and presented Ku with special gifts from the natural environment of the Hawaiian Islands.  April 2009.  Photo courtesy of Merry Glosband © 2009
