Under an umiaq

Though taken in Nome, this photo shows a scene also typical of Nigliq, where people came to trade in their umiat or skin boats. The boats were turned on their sides and made good shelters from the wind and rain, and also provided a place to store the goods. Alaska State Library, Alfred G.
