Tanik Trader with Baleen
The trader, a White man, stands next to cleaned baleen. Baleen was a major part of trade between Inupiat and the trading posts on the North Slope, but it was also important in the Inupiaq trade between inlanders (Nunamiut) and shore people (Tagiugmiut). Alaska State Library, Rev. Samuel Spriggs Photograph Collection (P320-39). About 1900.
